You cannot mentions glass student lamp shades without considering a ribbed pattern. Like the name implies, a ribbed shade has vertical ribs surrounding the shade from fitter to neck. The rib is a unique part of the shade mold and there are only two basic patterns within the ribbed group: straight ribs (just known as a "rib") and rib swirl. When looking at a ribbed shade, pay close attention to the rib widths as each rib should be exactly the same size. A poorly made rib shade may have some slight variations in the rib sizes near the joint of the mold. |
